The Keyholder, a freckled woman with her copper-red hair in a high bun, smiles and looks to the side, holding a long orange crank across her shoulders with both hands, a yellow hooked fitting at one end. She wears a marigold jacket over a cream shirt and navy trousers, with a ring of many keys hanging at her belt. Above her, a long row of shopfronts with scalloped yellow awnings over closed vermilion roller shutters recedes against a pale cream sky.

Quick answers

What strain is Mimosa?

A cross of Clementine and Purple Punch released by Symbiotic Genetics in 2017. Leafly calls it a staple of the Tangie family, because Clementine is Tangie × Lemon Skunk, and Weedmaps says the name comes from the fruity brunch drink.1,2,3,12 Leafly also lists Purple Mimosa and Mimosas as other names for it.1

Is Mimosa indica or sativa?

The labels differ more than the descriptions. Leafly calls Mimosa a hybrid and rates it mostly energizing; Weedmaps calls it sativa-dominant; AllBud, Royal Queen Seeds and Zamnesia list 70% sativa / 30% indica. Its parents pull both ways: Leafly rates Clementine energizing and Purple Punch mostly calming.1,3,4,5,6,12,13

How strong is Mimosa?

The median total THC across 844 state lab tests was 20.00%, with half of all results between 17.45% and 22.24%; 7.8% of tests reached 25% or more. In every year with at least 100 tests (2020–2023) the yearly median stayed between 19.67% and 20.21%.11 Leafly lists 19% and AllBud 19–27%.1,4

What does Mimosa taste like?

Citrus first. Leafly users list citrus, orange and grapefruit, and on Weedmaps 49% of flavor reports say citrus, 30% orange and 22% tropical. AllBud describes sweet and sour tropical citrus with a light berry exhale, and GreenState a strongly citrus smell with funky hints of skunk.1,2,3,4

Who created Mimosa?

Symbiotic Genetics, a Northern California breeder, released it in 2017. Its co-founders, named by GreenState as Michael and Vince, set out to capture a sweet citrus terpene profile that would also make good hash; only 400 seed packs went out, split between two stores, and some later sold at auction for $1,500 to $2,000.2,3

Is Watermelon Mimosa the same as Mimosa?

No. Leafly lists Watermelon Mimosa as Watermelon Zkittlez × Jesus OG from Elyon Cannabis, with no Mimosa in it; Weedmaps describes that strain and a second Watermelon Mimosa, a Mimosa × Watermelon Gelato #42 cross from LIT Farms. Mimosa Cake (Wedding Cake × Mimosa) and Mimosa Evo (Mimosa × Orange Punch) are other strains bred from it.8,9,10,14

From 400 seed packs to Leafly’s 100 best

Mimosa started small. Symbiotic Genetics released it in 2017 as 400 seed packs split between two stores; people lined up for them, and some packs later sold at auction for $1,500 to $2,000.2 Jungle Boys tested the cross before release, and in September 2019 High Times named Mimosa one of 20 trending strains, “exploding in popularity” since the year before as cultivators like the Jungle Boys brought it into full production.2,15

Growers’ selections won prizes early. “Mimosa #3”, entered by Pure Melt Rosin Ranch, placed fourth at the December 2017 Emerald Cup, and “Mimosa #A5” from Atrium Farms took second for sativa flower at High Times’ 2018 Northern California Cannabis Cup in Santa Rosa.3,16,17,18 GreenState named Symbiotic Genetics its best breeder of 2018, citing Mimosa, and Leafly’s list of the 100 best strains files it among the best for feeling uplifted, calling it a global multi-award-winner.19,20

Sales charts are where it does not show up: Mimosa is not on Leafly’s list of the best-selling strains of 2025 or in The Marijuana Herald’s September 2026 list of top sellers by state.21,22 Other measures show how far it spread: our lab dataset holds 844 tests of Mimosa flower from 10 states, dated 2018 to 2024.11 On Oct 4, 2026, stores in 18 of the 27 markets in our Weedmaps snapshot listed flower under the name.23
